Brake Repair in Gretna, Nebraska

You Heard What?

Silence is Golden

You may have heard the old adage that silence is golden. As it turns out, that rings somewhat true regarding the operation of your vehicle's brakes. They should operate without a lot of noteworthy noise. Therefore, if you hear sounds as you apply brakes or that seem to originate from that area, bring your vehicle for brake repair at Haver's Auto Repair in Gretna, Nebraska. We've been in business for more than a half century. Our goal has always been to provide the best auto services, and repairs to meet your expectations.

Sounds Than May Equate to Brake Trouble

We'll check your brakes to ensure proper diagnosis before making any repairs. However, there are a few sounds that you should be mindful of because they can indicate brake trouble. For example, you might notice a screeching or squealing as you brake. This most often points to the need for brake pads. They're durable, but most are made of metal. (Only the more expensive performance models are ceramic.) This means they'll eventually wear away and need replacement. They may begin to squeal on their own, or the manufacturer may include tabs that become exposed as the metal wears thin. This will create the warning sound that announces the need for replacement. Also, you may hear grinding. This can bear evidence of metal on metal, such as a stuck caliper or the sound of a component cutting into the rotors where pads have worn away. Finally, you might notice a chattering if the rotors (also known as discs) have become warped. Their surfaces should be smooth, and they should be even thickness throughout.
